MESSAGE

The concept behind ONE FUKUOKA BLDG., an “Intersection of creation,” incorporates a desire to create a place of constant excitement and inspiration for visitors, where new things are always being created.

We wanted to create a space where visitors and people working in the building could experience art up close through the incorporation of artistic elements into ONE FUKUOKA BLDG., a high-traffic area located at the Tenjin intersection, to provide opportunities for new discoveries and creative inspiration.

We hope that creating more opportunities for people to experience art in ONE FUKUOKA BLDG. and the Tenjin area will boost the appeal of the entire neighborhood along with the community.

MESSAGE

As I heard the story behind the design of the hotel and the Tenjin faith that inspired me, I felt it overlapped with the themes I usually work with and was thrilled by the request. I use the keyword “rethink” as a concept behind my creative work as an artist. Here, it means “revisiting the Japanese culture of the past and weaving a new culture for the future.” In this project, Fukuoka Building, a beloved building in this area, will be reborn as ONE FUKUOKA BLDG., and I believe the local colors and culture here deserve to be passed down to the next generation.

I am creating roughly 80 new pieces for this project with a series of paintings featuring lightning at its core. It is a great honor for me to be able to exhibit such a diverse range of art together, from pieces made with traditional craft techniques to contemporary paintings.
